Founded in 1947, Veneklasen Associates is one of the largest acoustical, audio-visual (AV), information transport systems (IT), environmental noise, and vibration consulting firms in the Western United States. Technical and scientific diversity, in combination with a premium placed by each individual within our firm on customer relations, is our hallmark. With the introduction in 2007 of IT design services, VA is now a sole source for Acoustical Consultation and AV/IT System design, which means that our clients can rely on a single consulting group for facility-wide sound quality and data management.
Our staff is carefully balanced, representing professionals with degrees in acoustics, physics, engineering and architecture. With 25 employees, we are large enough to represent a wealth of expertise to be shared, and small enough to assure that each project is supervised by a principal or senior associate. Each principal has been with the firm for decades, and as such bring a level of knowledge and experience to the science of acoustics that is unrivaled. Veneklasen Associates' reputation for innovative and cost-effective solutions has been earned through the successful completion of literally thousands of projects worldwide including:
- Civic Landmarks
- Courthouses & Public Safety Facilities
- College & University Buildings
- Hotels, Resorts & Casinos
- Condominiums & Apartments
- Concert Halls & Performing Arts Complexes
- Museums & Cultural Centers
- Commercial Buildings & Corporate Interiors

Veneklasen Associates relies upon a full complement of scientific computational measurement and analysis resources. We own and maintain a full inventory of equipment including sound level meters, noise monitors, logging devices, field computers, and vibration measurement analysis equipment. The extent of our technical resources allows us to prepare work product quickly and accurately in the form of reports, tables, and drawings which are readily integrated into overall project documentation.
Recent advances are changing data networks from exclusive use for computers to a unified platform for all building systems, providing new levels of efficiency. The current trend will drastically simplify human interaction with technology. One of the most exciting convergence areas is that of AV and IT. The disciplines can be used in tandem to implement successful integrated systems including building operations, data management, process automation, and communications systems such as audio, video and voice. Convergence also reduces infrastructure, cabling, conduit requirements as well as power consumption, adding value for LEED projects.
Western Electro-Acoustic Laboratory (WEAL), a division of Veneklasen Associates, was founded by Paul S. Veneklasen in 1947 following his participation in acoustical research at Harvard University's Electro-Acoustical Laboratory and the University of California, Los Angeles. It is one of only two laboratories west of the Mississippi accredited by the National Institute of Standards and Technology for both laboratory and field acoustical testing. WEAL provides laboratory support for Veneklasen Associates as well as a wide range of testing services and research opportunities for industry.
