VA Scope: Acoustical Consultation and Audio-Visual Design

Location: Burbank, California
Design Team: Venturi Scott Brown & Associates, HKS
Completion: 1999
Cost: $26 million

A five-story, 275,000 SF office building adjacent to the Main Alameda gate on Disney's Burbank Studio lot. Laid out as a loft building, standard office depths surround an interior courtyard. The base building materials are comparatively modest, complemented by more precious materials at the entry.

Entrance signage consists of a two-dimensional porcelain enamel film reel spinning off a 3D film strip. Lobby interiors consist of black and white imagery, walls covered in digitally pixilated marble, and a patterned terrazzo floor.

The building is located immediately adjacent to the 134 Freeway, one of the busiest highways in Southern California, and required noise abatement consultation and well as acoustic services. Veneklasen Associates also provided Audio-Visual consulting services for a 5,000 SF dubbing theater.
