Veneklasen Associates provided acoustical design and a paging system upgrade for one of the busiest terminals at Los Angeles International Airport.
Obtaining additional room in a confined space was critical. To that end, the design features double-height ceilings in the main terminal, and added floors in others. Terazzo and travertine surfaces in high traffic areas add durability, but create acoustical challenges. Perforated aluminum panels in vaulted ceilings boost acoustics in the terminal. A new paging system increases its volume as crowds get thicker and prevents employees from broadcasting messages simultaneously by holding messages in a queue.
The terminal also includes a 100,000-SF customs facility with 20 passport stations for a many as 1,200 visitors per hour for American’s connecting passengers who arrive at the Tom Bradley International Terminal.
